Property Description

On entering this characterful and charming 30's detached chalet bungalow you immediately notice the original features such as the high ceilings, wide doorways with original glazed interior door which opens to a wide 32 foot hallway with oak floor which runs centrally to the front to rear of the property with the main living spaces accessed from here. All the doorways have original brass plates and handles on original doors. The spacious dining room has a front facing bay window, original feature fireplace and mirror backed niche and original 1930's style wall lights and high ceilings throughout. The characterful bay windows are typical of the light property, which have been recently completely renewed with cream double glazing units throughout the property. The sitting room enjoys a solid oak floor and dual aspect windows, providing ample light as well as features such as picture rails and traditional wall lights and overlooks the sunny southerly rear garden. Continuing down the hallway there are two further rooms ideally currently used as bedrooms. Both have rear aspect bay windows overlooking the lawn and flower borders. There is ample storage and typical original features with excellent light and feeling of space. The conservatory is perfectly positioned. Private, yet with excellent views over the lawned garden, with a glass glazed roof. A study with a west facing bay window and further storage space is near the kitchen breakfast area and situated at the front of the property. Recently finished to a high standard throughout, the interior decoration has high attention to detail and includes a refurbished downstairs bathroom and a further W.C. On the first floor there are two bedrooms, with one substantial double bedroom overlooking the garden with walk-in eaves storage and fitted wardrobes and a front aspect double bedroom with storage also. A further family bathroom is on the first floor as well as a large storage/airing cupboard housing the new boiler and central heating system controls.

Outside there is a double garage with loft above and a wonderful southerly rear garden which takes full advantage of the natural space and size of the plot which would create envy to your friends. Plenty of space for entertaining or children's fun. There is an outside inverter, ‘gardener's toilet’ as well as side access to the front of the property on the side path. Once outside it's also clear that the property has been repainted and re-rendered and has a brand new roof, which means that there should be little worry with maintenance (subject to survey of course). The cream double-glazing really suits the era and brings out the best in the 30's style especially on such a prestigious street as Queens Avenue. The style of the property from both the outside and the inside is extremely attractive and finished to a high standard. The property must be viewed to appreciate what is on offer.

Owners Comments

"We fell in love with this house as soon as we walked through the front door. A lovely 1937 house with touches of art deco, large rooms and lots of character, this house is the only one of its kind on a beautiful tree-lined avenue. When we bought we knew that it was a major restoration project and we put a lot of thought into keeping the atmosphere of the period, and retaining as many original features as possible, whilst modernising it as well. The garden was also very overgrown so has been cleared and replanted with new paths, patio and driveway. This has been a house that we have thoroughly enjoyed renovating and living in and will be very sorry to leave it."
